Sephiroth has been unleashed on the world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the rest of the fighters in the game have been rebalanced as part of the new 10.1.0 update.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is looking to end its year on a high note. For fans, that means the release of one of the most anticipated DLC characters in the series’ history. Yes, Sephiroth is officially available to everyone with the release of the Ver. 10.1 patch. The update also means that it’s time to rebalance the fighters.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update 10.1 patch notes
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update 10.1 is now available to all Nintendo Switch owners. The full patch notes have been uploaded to the Nintendo website, including all the fighter settings, which look like this:
Fighter | Move | Change |
---|---|---|
Fox | Forward airstrike | Made it easier to hit multiple times. Greater attack range from first attack to fourth attack. |
Fox | Downward airstrike | Made it easier to hit multiple times. Greater attack range. |
Luigi | Dash attack | Made it easier to hit multiple times. |
Zelda | Side crush attack | Made it easier to hit multiple times. Greater range of the final attack. |
Pichu | Side crush attack | Greater range of the final attack. |
Younk Link | Even special | Made it easier to hit multiple times when using mid-air motion. |
Toon link | Even special | Made it easier to hit multiple times when using midair motion. |
Olimar | Even special | After launching a Pikmin with a side smash attack or side special, if there are other Pikmin nearby when using a special, an air strike will occur with a Pikmin. |
Rosalina and Luma | Forward airstrike | Made it easier to hit multiple times. Decreased the range of attack above the skirt hem and made it easier to continue with later attacks. Greater range of the final attack. |
Mii gunner | Shot up | Tight launch angle. Greater attack range for the shot taken after the launch |
Duck hunting | Side crush attack | Made it easier to hit multiple times. Decreased the time an opponent can hit with a random stun during the first and second attacks. |
It’s not much this time, although it’s interesting to note some of those improvements to Fox’s airstrikes and Rosalina’s forward air. And huzzah Luigi improving his dash attack.
In a really cool touch, the arrival of Sephiroth also brings some Easter eggs from Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. That includes renaming the 2P / 4P / 6P / 8P suits from Final Smash for Cloud (his Advent Children appearance) to Omnislash Ver. 5. It will work just like his regular Final Smash, but now fits better in the continuity of Advent Children.
If you’re wondering why there’s a “.1” for the fighter’s balance patch this time around, it’s because Update 10.0 was released late last week and gave people a chance to unlock Sephiroth early. Now that the early access window has expired, Final Fantasy 7’s dreaded Single Wing Angel is ready to terrorize anyone with Fighter Pass 2.

Best of luck to those who are ready to rain destruction in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Sephiroth in update 10.1. That’s not the end of Fighter Pass 2, so Shacknews will continue to search for what’s next in the Smash world. While we wait for that day, be sure to check out the latest Mii Fighter outfits as well.
