Senior Sudanese and Ethiopian military officers will meet Saturday in the resort town of Bahir Dar in northwestern Ethiopia.

The Amhara Media Agency (AMMA) reported that border security across the two countries and peace are the main items on the meeting’s agenda.

Brigadier General Mulu Alem Admasu from the Ethiopian side and Major General Salah Abdella from the Sudan side lead the respective delegation at the meeting.

The report did not say if the meeting continues for days or if it is a one-day meeting.

There have been reports of sporadic clashes along the border. The military officials of the two countries are committed to working collaboratively to solve security challenges, according to the Amhara Media Agency.

In May 2020, there was a serious confrontation that claimed dozens of lives on both sides of the border.
