Even when consumers came out of lockdown and returned to a more typical lifestyle, they didn’t change how much they used mobile devices. That’s a key takeaway from App Annie’s latest mobile usage report, which finds that consumers once again increased the time they spend in the mobile space. However, a key change is that it is not just games that are getting the attention of consumers.
For the app’s third quarter, Annie researchers found the dating and events apps category skyrocketed, growing 45% quarter over quarter. Games were the ultimate winner, with a 310% quarter-on-quarter increase in downloads. Library applications also experienced a strong growth rate of 100% QoQ.
“2020 to date has been a banner year for gaming, and the launch of next-gen consoles this holiday season is poised to drive even greater growth with more affordable models configured to further expand the user base of gamers. “write the report’s authors.
And, despite the fact that many are still not traveling to vacation destinations due to the COVID19 pandemic, they are looking for travel destinations, perhaps in preparation for after a vaccine is found or when coronavirus infection numbers have diminished. In fact, the App Annie report finds that travel apps experienced a 50% quarter-on-quarter increase in downloads, while navigation apps increased downloads by 25% and weather apps increased downloads by 15%.
