Elon Musk’s Starlink megacontellation will start the system beta test in about 3 months and the public beta test in about 6 months, according to Tweets from Musk.

There are now just over 400 Starlink ships operational and Musk indicated in his Tweets that beta testing will begin in “high latitudes,” which means Alaska and Canada.

Musk’s comments sparked an avalanche of congratulatory Tweets and requests to add to beta testers, especially from potential users in Canada and the northern states. A frustrated user summed up the comments from others, “I can’t wait to tell Comcast to push it!”

The April 22 launch of another 60 satellites brings the constellation to 422 ships, although some satellites are known to be down.

Starlink will need many more satellites to be in orbit before a global service can begin, although Musk has stated that 2021 will see the introduction of commercial services.

The April 22 batch will follow with another 60 satellites later in May.
