New details on Final Fantasy XVI have been revealed, including the story, characters, and world that players will experience.

The official website of Final Fantasy XVI has released, releasing a host of new information for fans to enjoy ahead of the game’s release. While no release date has been mentioned, the wave of information being released adds weight to previous reports that the game will arrive sooner than people think.

Final Fantasy XVI is set in the world of Valisthea, a land covered in towering crystals known as Mothercrystals, which are said to bless the world with the power of ether. Due to their magical power, it is said that “people have flocked to these beacons to seize their blessing”, and as a result “an uneasy peace has long reigned between them” and the Mother Crystals.

Powerful creatures known as Eikons also reside in Valisthea, who can be summoned by beings known as Dominants – “a single man or woman who has been blessed with the ability to summon their terrible power.” Different provinces of Valisthea are said to have different options for the Eikons, some are treated like royalty, while others are symbolic of fear.

Players will see the world through the eyes of the protagonist, Clive Rosfield. It is said that he is “the first-born son of the Archduke of Rosaria”, who is a master of the sword. While the world expected him to become a Dominant, that power went to his younger brother, Joshua Rosfield, who is the polar opposite of Clive and “gets angry to see a carrot on his plate.”

Joining the couple in the adventure is Jill Warrick, who “was taken from her homeland at a tender age to become Rosaria’s ward.” It is said that she grew up alongside Clive and Joshua, and “became a trusted confidante for the brothers.” Your adventure will unfold when a tragic incident occurs at the hands of the dark Eikon, Ifrit.

Final Fantasy XVI It has reportedly been in development for four years and has finished all of its building blocks. Square Enix said it has now moved to “large-scale resources and builds boss battles while expanding our various development tools.” The game is expected to launch as a PS5 exclusive.
