Music streaming is what most people do today, but local archives can help fill in the gaps and draw from a library that spent years curating. Now Spotify for Android is gearing up to finally add support for listening to local music on your phone.
Jane Wong discovered a new option being developed for the Spotify Android app that allows users to import audio files stored locally on the device so that they can appear in your library. It’s unclear if it’s a comprehensive or granular approach, but it’s exciting nonetheless.
Personal MP3s are currently only available on Spotify through the desktop app with the ability to sync songs to your device. However, this feature is only available on Premium accounts. Those who have tried it also claim that it is a bit unreliable.
This change also notably comes right after Google disconnected Play Music. While YouTube Music is a suitable replacement, it lacks some features that make some users search for alternatives, and Spotify is one of the best. Now Spotify makes it much easier for users to access their local files as long as there is enough storage on the device. It’s also unclear whether Spotify will be able to stream local music from the app.
