It’s really no secret, and to some extent, it’s understandable that game developers and publishers want to sell as many copies of a game as they can. That doubles if a company has its hands inside both the game and the console the game would run on. This situation is what has made the Spider-Man titles for PS4 and PS5 a disaster. Sony seems to finally be willing to bypass gamers by at least allowing them to transfer their Spider-Man save game from PS4 to the remastered version on PS5.
Nothing else has changed in that sense. The only way for players to get the Spider-Man: Remastered version is if they purchase Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition or upgrade from the PS4 Miles Morales title and upgrade to the Ultimate Edition. Sony is sticking with that scheme, at least for now, without a direct upgrade path from the Peter Parker version on the PS4 to the PS5 Remaster.
However, last September, Sony also dropped a bomb on gamers. It would not support transferring your PS4 game data to the PS5 counterpart. That practically meant starting over, which might be what Sony wanted gamers to do anyway.
After no small reaction, Sony has relented and now announces that save games will be transferable after all. That could mean that you won’t enjoy the graphics update unless you start from scratch, but you will see Peter Parker suddenly sporting a new face.
However, this game export feature won’t arrive until a few weeks later, which means you will miss the PS5 launch window. To make the wait worthwhile, Sony will also be giving PS4 players a gift in the form of three new outfits previously exclusive to the Remastered version, in case they haven’t decided to move on to the new console yet.
