The point is. You can’t have 4K and 90/120 working together (blame Qualcomm).
It makes no sense to give 1080 @ 120, because it will use more power also it would be very stupid to use this mode if you have paid for 4K screen.
It’s like buying a Dell Alienware laptop to end up using just the browser and office or an 8K TV if the connection only allows you to stream Full HD.

Some clue? The camera chips I wouldn’t count, as Sony is the biggest, but it is far from the only one.
Not to mention, they sold out because there were no units to reach local distribution, not because they sold like hotcakes. It is a bit lucky to be able to get numbers for the second largest “it” store in my country.

Even in many stores where the phone is sold, stocks are always empty, which clearly means that people still think that their phones are as good as any Samsung, Apple or Chinese phone.
And who told you that their innovation in the smartphone department is over? Most of today’s Chinese phones use Sony’s Quad Bayer sensors, as well as the omni-directional AF function that they introduced earlier this month and that was already immediately found in the Find X2 Pro.
Hell, even Samsung has embraced the 21: 9 screen aspect ratio of last year’s Xperia 1 with the latest Galaxy Z Flip, and while it’s not an innovation, the influence is still evident here.
Most of what Sony brought to the table is still being used by many manufacturers for their products. The IP rating alone already says everything you need to know.

I doubt that Photo Pro is not present here, considering that they are emphasizing this phone in the same way as they are doing with the 1 II, which relates to the Sony A9 II in terms of camera prowess.
What wouldn’t make sense here is the presence of a 120Hz display, unless of course there’s something they’re going to do to have the same on the 1 II, or maybe it wouldn’t be here at all.

Too bad Sony is learning from other OEMs the stupid habit of saving all the good stuff just for the main / biggest phone.
This was supposed to be just a smaller 1080p version of the 1ii, not a version with reduced features. No ToF, no professional photo, the layout is the same as 10ii.
I’d rather pay $ 1100 and have everything the 1ii has except the 4K display, than pay maybe $ 850-900 for a much lower-end phone.

That being said, in a world full of holes and notches (with very few exceptions, like pop camera phones), this design is very welcome. One of my favorite designs on a phone was the Note 9.
