Following the release of Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, Sony is exploring the idea of bringing more of its own games to PC.
In Sony’s 2020 corporate report, it states that it will “explore expanding our proprietary titles to the PC platform, to promote further growth in our profitability.”
It’s important to note that this would likely mean that Sony would be looking to port older titles, such as God of War from 2018, rather than new releases.
Horizon Zero Dawn, for example, was released in 2017 and didn’t arrive on PC until 2020, right when its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was revealed.
This move by Sony could get other consumers interested in its original games, who would possibly feel the need to switch to the PlayStation ecosystem to play the next entries in those series.
The PS4 exclusives Death Stranding and Detroit: Become Human were also released for PC, but were published by 505 Games and Epic Games, respectively.
Sony’s strategy for bringing its own games to PC is a bit different than Microsoft’s, as its Xbox Play Anywhere initiative ensures that most of the major games in its portfolio can be played on both Xbox One and PC.
