Some EA UFC 4 fans took to social media last weekend to complain about ad placement for Amazon’s original series The Boys, which began on September 4. How can I know that with the palm of my hand? Because I play EA UFC 4 a lot and the information stuck with me. Mission accomplished. That being said, I haven’t seen an episode, which might change because I heard it’s amazing.
Regardless, I’m annoyed by these ads that came in the form of a mat placement, which actually looked really cool and realistic, a takeover screen at the beginning of replays, and a little pop-up just above the scoring error in the bottom of the screen? Absolutely not. It looked like a real-life UFC event, and forgive anyone looking for real-life broadcast presentation qualities in a sports game. Here’s a look at the location that generated complaints.
Are we being serious right now?
I make a living on the internet, which means I rely a bit on advertisements to feed my family. Therefore, I am a little more tolerant of seeing ads before, during and after consuming online content. However, I know that there is a group of people who hate ads. Clearly, the people who went crazy over The Boys ads are part of that team.
It was suggested in a Reddit thread that the ads were put in a post-launch patch to avoid reviewers who might have been critical of such a move. I’m not sure about that as I have gone through all versions of the game and wouldn’t have thought twice. Regardless, angry fans will be happy to hear that EA issued an apology in the same thread through EA’s representative, CoreySA.
It reads:
“I’m part of the community team here at EA and I wanted to post here and give everyone an update on this situation. Earlier this week, the team turned on ad placements on EA SPORTS UFC 4 which appeared during the “Replay” moments in the game. This type of ad inventory is not new to the UFC franchise, although we typically reserve the display of ads on specific tiles in the main menu or at the location of the Octagon logo. From your feedback, it is very clear that the integration of ads into the playback and overlay experience is not welcome. Ads have been disabled by the team and we apologize for any game interruptions that players may have experienced. We are aware that this should have been communicated to the players in advance and that is up to us. We want to make sure our players have the best possible playing experience EA SPORTS UFC 4so the ad integration into the playback and overlay experience will not appear again in the future. Thank you for your continued feedback on EA SPORTS UFC 4. “
Now if we could get a logical stamina loss for users doing spam deletions, a decent way to avoid shutdown, and a real replay suite that is user controllable, we will really eliminate some major issues.
