Some 125 new cities gain access to electricity in half a year –

About 125 new cities have had access to electric power during the last six months of the Ethiopian budget year, according to the Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU).

EEU said in a statement that the plan was to provide electricity to 161 new cities across the country during the indicated period.

It has also allowed another 10 municipalities to obtain electricity with renovation works in six months of the budget year.

In total, 135 rural towns and villages have been able to obtain electricity through the new and reconstruction projects of the 171 planned cities, according to the EEU.

Likewise, it was learned that electricity was provided to 142,011 new customers throughout the country.

The Ethiopian Electric Utility has also built 1,439 kilometers of power transmission lines and installed 427 transformers during the indicated period in rural areas of the country.

It has been making great efforts to guarantee equitable access to electricity in areas where there is no electricity, according to ENA.

In this sense, of the 12 solar energy projects that have been built, four of them are completed this year and ready to provide electrical services to the rural community, he added.
