Hargeisa (PP News Desk) – The chairman of Somaliland’s main opposition party, UCID, Faisal Ali Warabe, has called on the Ethiopian Government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to agree to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

“We add our voice to the calls to reduce the escalation of the conflict in Ethiopia. As it seems, the conflict can acquire international dimensions and affect all the countries of the Horn of Africa, ”Warabe said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Hargeisa.

Faisal A. Warabe: Winning a Nobel Peace Prize and declaring war on citizens are incompatible.

“Our message to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia [Abiy Ahmed] en: winning a Nobel Peace Prize and declaring war on citizens are incompatible. We believe that the war must stop and the talks must begin, in line with the calls for de-escalation, ”continued Mr. Warabe.

Last week, the Ethiopian government declared war on Tigray despite framing the conflict as “operations in Tigray to bring TPLF leaders to justice.”

The Ethiopian government in Addis Ababa recently appointed an interim administration for Tigray against the wishes of the region’s Tigrayans, who held their own elections in September.

The TPLF won the elections and the right to represent Tigray.

Mr. Faisal A. Warabe is the first Somali politician to openly call for a cessation of hostilities between the TPLF and the Ethiopian Government forces, as well as their allied Amhara militias.
