Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad was fired following a decree from Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble’s office.

The prime minister appointed Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud Abubakar as his successor, who comes from a family with a political background.

Mohamed previously served as a former chief of staff to President Abdullahi Yusuf, an advisor to former UN envoy Ahmedou Ould-Abdalla and national director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The change comes less than 24 hours after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

issued a statement on the Ethiopia situation, only to be withdrawn after it said it was unofficial.

The outgoing minister was appointed ambassador, although he denied the position in a statement posted on his social networks.

I am grateful to the President for my appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs on November 4, 2018. I thank the Heads of State and the people of Somalia. I hereby declare that I am currently not prepared for any position as Ambassador or any other, “said former Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad in a statement.

It is reported that the Ethiopia crisis only cost Awad that his working statement on Ethiopia was posted on the official Twitter account of the Foreign Ministry and 3 hours later the ministry said the statement does not represent the views of the Somali government call to * dialogue * territorial integrity.

In an interview with BBC Somali, he declined to say that he was fired from his post.

“I was initially appointed by the president and the prime minister. When they appointed me, they also have the right to remove me from office,” Awad said.
