GAROWE, Somalia
Somalia announced on Tuesday that it was severing diplomatic relations with its southwestern Kenyan neighbor, accusing it of violating Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somalia’s Information Minister Osman Dube, who announced the government’s decision in a televised speech, said that Somalia ordered all its diplomats in Kenya to return, while Kenyan diplomats in Somalia were ordered to leave inside. seven days.
“Somalia made this decision after Kenya’s latest flagrant interference in Somalia’s internal affairs. The current Kenyan leadership always wanted to create trouble in Somalia,” Dube said.
Kenya, however, denies Somalia’s allegations.
Last November, Somalia expelled the Kenyan ambassador and called its Kenyan ambassador.
The latest decision comes a day after Muse Bihi Abdi, the president of Somalia’s breakaway northwestern region Somaliland, visited Kenya and met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi.
Relations between Kenya and Somalia have been marred by growing tensions stemming from divisive security issues and maritime border disputes between the two East African states.
