Days after severing diplomatic ties with its southwestern neighbor, Somalia on Saturday accused Kenya of mobilizing troops and arming militia groups to attack an area along their shared border.
In a statement, Somalia said that “the federal government of Somalia is closely monitoring the ongoing military mobilization of the Kenyan government in the Mandera area” in northern Kenya.
Somalia accused Kenya of arming an illegal insurgency along the porous Kenyan-Somali border to attack Somali national army bases in the Beled-Hawo region.
“The federal government of Somalia is warning the government of Kenya against actions that are detrimental to the overall security of the Horn of Africa region,” the statement said, adding that the alleged actions by Kenya could lead to insecurity and instability in the region. .
Kenya has yet to respond to the accusations, which came two days after Somalia cut all diplomatic ties with Kenya, accusing it of interfering in its internal affairs and meddling in its elections.
As the diplomatic dispute between the two East African countries worsens, Kenya maintains that dialogue at the diplomatic level will solve its problems, saying it will not resort to any aggressive measures.
