Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the highest-profile Serie A player to contract COVID-19 since play was resumed in Italy in June after a three-month hiatus due to the pandemic.
The 38-year-old AC Milan forward was quarantined at home following the test conducted before the team’s Europa League tie against Norwegian Bodo / Glimt on Thursday, the Italian club said.
The announcement came a day after his Brazilian teammate Leo Duarte also returned a positive test.
“All other team members and staff have tested negative,” the club said in a statement on its website.
The veteran forward, who claimed not to have experienced any symptoms, responded to the diagnosis with his inimitable style.

The 14-day quarantine will sideline the striker from the Europa League qualifier against visiting Bodo / Glimt and upcoming Serie A matches against league newcomers Crotone and Spezias.
Ibrahimovic, who will turn 39 next month, has scored 14 goals in 22 games since returning for a second season in Milan in January, helping to revive his team.
He kicked off the new Serie A season in style on Monday by scoring two goals in a 2-0 win over Bologna.
Ibrahimovic, one of the most charismatic players in Europe, has previously played for Dutch Ajax, Italian clubs Juventus and Inter Milan, Spain’s Barcelona, American club Los Angeles Galaxy, France’s Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United from England.
