Sifan Hassan has set a new European record of 10,000 meters for women, beating Paula Radcliffe’s record in 2002 by more than 24 seconds. The 27-year-old, who won 1,500m and 10,000m in gold at the Doha World Championships last year, clocked 29 minutes and 36.67 seconds.

Radcliffe’s time was 30: 01.09, played at the 2002 European Championship in Munich.

“I am very happy to have achieved a new European record, especially a record that has been held for so long by an athlete as strong as Paula,” Hassan said.
“It was a very difficult race today because of the cold and the rain. I felt very strong and wanted a little better conditions, but this record gives me a lot of confidence ”.
