Server issues are Destiny 2’s biggest enemy on Beyond Light launch day

Destiny 2’s Beyond Light expansion launched five hours ago, but many players have yet to participate due to ongoing server issues with the game they slowly It seems to be working out, but not fast enough for many.

Players are greeted with bugs with codes like weasel and chicken, but generally long queues to enter the game where their place in line often tends to go up, rather than down, in a confusing way.

I was lucky for most of the day, I was able to log in about 15 minutes after the game went online and I was able to log back in later with no issues. But after returning home recently, my luck has run out and I am currently in queue as a sizeable portion of the population.

I did a survey recently to see where people were. In short, nearly half of prospective Destiny Beyond Light players are still unable to enter at this point, although more than half have made it:

Is not a huge It’s surprising that this is happening, given the massive overhaul of the general game that Destiny 2 experienced today, along with increased interest in the game as a next-gen window launch title, even if Beyond Light is “just” an expansion.

It’s also the case that Xbox Live was having some issues early on in the Series X launch, which made things even worse for those gamers, but that seems to be mostly resolved by now. Beyond Light is in big business with Xbox, where it will launch on Game Pass for free today.

What will players find once they enter? My playtime has been constantly interrupted by real life today, but I’ve done so mid-season, and most players will find that they end up below par to some degree. I think I’m on the fourth mission and 1100 power is already required, while I’m barely cracking 1075, which is pretty difficult. But every drop is an update, so it’s a pretty straightforward path. So far, I like what I’m watching, but I’m going to play the rest of the night and come back with a more comprehensive report in the morning.

For now, there is nothing to do but watch Bungie Help for updates on what’s going on as they’ve been quite frequent discussing issues there. I would keep trying and stay in whichever queue you were in and just cross my fingers.
