To carry out

The city comes to life late: Man. City looked headed for an explainable defeat on Saturday until Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus were late to play. City had 20 shots on the day, nine on frame, but couldn’t save numerous good chances until it mattered more. After Foden’s comfortable shot in the 81st minute, Gabriel Jesus produced an absolutely sensational goal. Watch the Brazilian drop Fernandinho’s ball and shoot the spectacular winner home in the 84th minute:

Ferran Torres added a goal in injury time to cement the result in City’s advance.

The attack of the wolves continues to stutter: Before Friday’s game, the only team this season that had limited the Wolves to just one shot on goal was Manchester City, but Chorley added his name to that list with an outstanding display in the loss. Unfortunately for the sixth tier team, the only time their visitors managed to hit the target was an impressive blow from Vitinha that won the day for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.

However, the Wolves boss will remain concerned about his team’s inability to pose a major threat to any defense without Raul Jimenez, so often at Victory Park they advanced to the edge of the area only to come to a complete stop. Had it not been for the excellent Willy Boly and Conor Coady in the back, the pressure from Chorley might have been too much with Andy Halls and the dangerous Elliot Newby getting good saves from John Ruddy in the visiting goal.

The gunners lay an egg with Pepe fighting again: Both Arsenal and Southampton created two shots on goal in the 90th minute in Saturday’s battle, but neither managed to find the net on their own. It took an own goal from Arsenal’s Gabriel to send Southampton into the next round, while Arsenal remain inconsistent. The cup holders rebounded at a time when Arsenal weren’t playing too bad. Mikel Arteta’s team had won five of their last six games in all competitions, but a weak starting lineup resulted in a weak result. Alexandre Lacazette and Buyako Saka came off the bench but couldn’t impact the game enough as Arsenal slumped much earlier than expected.
