Samsung Electronics Co. will introduce a new line of smartphones in India, industry experts said on Tuesday, as the South Korean tech giant seeks to expand its presence in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

Samsung’s Indian unit recently said on Twitter that it will soon launch the Galaxy F series of smartphones. The world’s leading smartphone producer currently has the premium series Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, the foldable Galaxy Z family and the budget lines Galaxy A and M.

The new Galaxy F lineup is expected to have mid-to-low-end smartphones that focus on cameras.

Samsung has not confirmed any information about the first Galaxy F smartphone, but foreign tech critics predicted that the Galaxy F41 will be the first to debut.

The Galaxy F41 is rumored to have a waterdrop notch display and features a triple rear camera setup.

Samsung was the second largest smartphone supplier in India in the second quarter of the year with a 26 percent market share, behind only China’s Xiaomi with a 29 percent market share.

But with anti-China sentiment growing in India, following a deadly border confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, Samsung has been trying to increase its market share in the South Asian nation.

The company recently launched the Galaxy M31s and Galaxy M51 in India and ran various promotions to boost sales.

With Chinese brands expected to struggle in India, other smartphone makers are also looking to increase their sales there.

Apple Inc. said its online Apple Store will open on Wednesday to sell products directly to Indian consumers. LG Electronics Inc. said it also plans to build a portfolio of India-specific products to expand its smartphone sales. (Yonhap)
