Samsung is removing ads that mocked Apple for not including a charger in the box

Samsung has been caught removing an ad that mocks Apple for not including a charging pad with the iPhone 12, the same thing it is rumored to be doing with its Galaxy S21 phones. The Facebook post was made by Samsung Caribbean in October, and featured an image of a charging block with the caption “Included with your Galaxy” (via 9to5Google).

This isn’t the first time Samsung has removed ads after adopting the same practice that Apple was mocked for. When the Galaxy Note 10 was released without a headphone jack, Samsung removed ads that mocked the iPhone X for not having a similar plug (ads that were made even more awkward by the fact that the iPhone in the ad was only called the ten”).

None of this is to say that doing the same as Apple is necessarily a bad thing. Samsung had an explanation as to why it removed the headphone jack, and not including the charger could be good for the environment. It’s just not a great look when Samsung posts announcements about including a charger just a few months before it is expected to remove it.

Despite the discomfort that marketing might cause, Samsung was able to handle this better than Apple. When Apple removed the charging block, they also changed the cable that came with the phone – almost every previous iPhone came with a USB-A block, and the cable included in the iPhone 12 box was USB-C to Lightning. So the “everyone has a charging block” argument fell through because almost all previous iPhone blocks weren’t compatible with the included cable (although Apple would gladly sell one to its customers for $ 20).

Samsung phones, however, use standard USB-C cables for charging, as opposed to Apple’s proprietary lighting. This means that the cable that came with Samsung’s new phone will work with the charging block that came with last year’s model (although it won’t help people who don’t buy new phones every year, as the Galaxy S10 arrived from two years ago). with a USB-A charging block).
