It’s been a great start to the week for Everton fans, with the Toffees announcing the signing of James Rodriguez on Monday.

The Colombian international has joined Everton on a two-year deal, and the Goodison Park team has a third-year option for the playmaker.

Rodriguez, who reportedly cost Everton £ 20 million, has become Carlo Ancelotti’s second senior signing of the summer, following the arrival of Napoli midfielder Allan.

The 29-year-old joins Ancelotti for the third time in his career as the Toffees manager had signed the playmaker for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in previous years.

Rodríguez burst onto the scene after impressing Colombia at the 2014 World Cup and winning the Golden Shoe, prompting Real to sign him from Monaco for £ 63m.

He started off brilliantly for Los Blancos, with 13 goals and 13 assists in La Liga in his first season, but failed to reach those same heights in the future amid injuries and loss of form.

Although Rodríguez won accolades at the Bernabéu, with people like Roberto Carlos calling him a “phenomenon” and a “great player” (Blu Radio), Zinedine Zidane rarely used him.

Rodríguez was in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid and started just five league games with Zidane last season, closing his tally with 37 goals in 125 appearances.

Despite his mixed spell at La Real, Rodríguez leaves with good wishes from some of his fans:
