However, on Monday night, Baron Cohen revealed to Stephen Colbert that the infamous scene almost fell apart.
“The interview starts and I turn on the phone and there’s only 3% battery and I say, ‘Wait, we have Rudy Giuliani, we have the president’s attorney, we have this scene, this is the climax of the movie and no one thought it would be worth the shame charging the phone, ‘”he said in A late show with Stephen Colbert.
Baron Cohen said the phone, which he kept alive for the remainder of the Giuliani interview by turning on airplane mode, was the only way he could find out what was happening between Donald Trump’s lawyer and 15-year-old Tutar of Maria Bakalova. Hidden in a hidden closet in the hotel room, the actor said that only text messages from the exhausted phone would be his signal to surprise the lawyer.

During the night segment, the Borat The actor also responded to Giuliani’s claims that the fashion scene featured nothing incriminating.
“Well he said he didn’t do anything inappropriate and my feeling is that if he sees it as appropriate, God knows what he intends to do with other women in hotel rooms with a glass of whiskey in hand,” she said.
Baron Cohen and Colbert continued to discuss the new Borat film, the actor’s “rigorous process” of eventually casting the perfect Tutar and, of course, Trump.
While Giuliani was the closest Borat got to the sitting president in the new Amazon movie directed by Jason Woliner, Baron Cohen did recall that he interviewed Trump as his character Ali G. long before Trump was president.
“I remember Donald Trump looking at me and I was wearing a tracksuit or something … his face fell, he immediately got furious because he was going to talk to someone from a lower class,” Baron Cohen said.
He said the interview with Trump ended abruptly and in a way that seems a bit familiar given the recent 60 minutes appearance.
“He excused himself and left,” he said. “He completely believed that Ali G. was real.”
