Saber Interactive, the team behind the Witcher 3’s excellent Switch port, has been selected to make the game for next-gen consoles. Saber is leading the development of the full retail relaunch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as upgrade enhancements on PC.
Saber will harness the full power of the PS5, Xbox Series X, and high-end PCs to enable ray tracing, ultra-fast load times with PCIe 4.0 SSDs, 4K 60FPS performance targets, and more.
The news was confirmed on a recent CD Projekt. cal conferencel:
“Regarding The Witcher 3 and its next-gen version: This project is set overseas, with our proven partner having delivered the 4K version of The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 3 for the Switch, as far as you know very well our technology “. Adam Kicinski, president of CD Projekt, said.
“We asked them to prepare the next generation port and, as I said during my presentation, we expect a complete next generation experience, with great next generation features, but it does not interfere with the next generation development of CP, which is being done in-house. by the CP team, and we are confirming that CP will be released in the next generation version. “
Kicinski clarifies that CD Projekt RED will develop the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 in-house, and it will not be released to other teams such as Saber Interactive.
“Well, we have to differentiate two things: the current version, which will be released in November, will be playable from the beginning when the next generation consoles are released; you will be able to play the current generation version on the next generation on Day 1. AND you can expect a bit higher quality than the current generation.
“However, the next-generation full version is planned for next year and will be developed in-house.”
The next-gen re-release of The Witcher 3 will launch sometime in 2021. It will be a separate retail version of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but all existing PS4, Xbox One, and PC owners will update for free. This includes both the basic base game and the full edition of GOTY.
