Rust is finally coming to Xbox One and PS4 in May, and it was no small feat, according to an extensive blog post from developer Double Eleven.
Oxide It finally has a release date for consoles, and it’s coming very soon. Developer Double Eleven previously promised that Oxide It was coming this spring, but he refrained from providing an exact release date. It’s now official that the nearly decade-old game will hit consoles in May.
Oxide had a massive resurgence last year on PC, causing it to generate a ton of buzz and revenue. The newfound attention for the survival game had more and more gamers wondering when it would hit the console. Although a console port was announced in 2019, it went unnoticed for a long time, causing some to wonder if it had been fully canned. Fortunately, Double Eleven crushed these fears in early 2021 by delving into the remake and releasing a game for Rust that runs on PS4.

Double Eleven released a new blog post (via IGN) announcing that Rust would be released on PS4 and Xbox One (it will also run in backward compatible mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S) on May 21, 2021. The developer also noted how it will differ quite a bit from the PC version of Facepunch As time went by. “We started talking to Facepunch in 2016 about the idea of creating a console version of Rust and how it might work. We knew from the beginning that the two games would have to be in separate universes since the PC edition can be expanded as needed. and performance will be maintained as long as people continue to upgrade their hardware, while consoles, on the other hand, have finite resources that need to be managed more closely. “ Double Eleven said.
A beta version of the console for Oxide It has been ongoing for the past few weeks, but is subject to a high NDA. The previously released game seems to suggest that it will largely share the core mechanics of the PC version. Console versions of Oxide It will have its own upgrade roadmap, separate from the one designed for the PC version, and this content plan will be handled independently due to the limitations of consoles compared to PCs.
It’s unclear if this will be a problem in the future, but hopefully Double Eleven can support Oxide for a respectable time without sacrificing quality. It’s pretty impressive that the game is coming to consoles in the first place, and it doesn’t even seem compromised compared to the PC version. Given the rebirth of OxideDue to the popularity of the last few months, it seems like the perfect time to launch the game on consoles and will hopefully give the game a healthy fanbase on consoles.
