China will ensure crop production, develop seed industry and strengthen agricultural land protection in 2021 to promote rural vitalization and accelerate agricultural and rural modernization, the country’s agriculture minister said.
China will strive to ensure that agricultural production exceeds 650 billion kilograms this year in a bid to secure the country’s food supply, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian.
To shore up the seed industry, China will begin research on core technologies, launch major projects for organic farming, and establish seed groups of crops and marine fish and livestock species, Tang said.

In the 2021-2022 period, about 6.66 million hectares of high-level agricultural land will be built each year, Tang said.
The ministry will also make efforts to modernize rural industry and supply chains, stabilize the recovery of pig production and improve the quality and safety of agricultural products, Tang added.

Since all of China’s counties have just been removed from the absolute poverty list, the Chinese government decided to establish a five-year transition period to help consolidate all the achievements. And after that, China will comprehensively promote rural revitalization, which officials say is a historic shift in focus of work related to agriculture, rural areas and rural population.
