Rumors are circulating that Ubisoft’s subscription service Ubisoft + (formerly Uplay +) could join Xbox Game Pass, similar to the EA Play deal that wowed us last year.
Central Jez Corden from the window pointed On twitter (via NME) who had seen rumors about the merging of the service with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Creating lots of stories to salivate offers potential value that it would add to Microsoft’s service.
However, there are significant differences between EA and Ubisoft services as they stand. For starters, Ubisoft + isn’t currently available on any console, Xbox included, unlike EA Play when it made its big move.
Launching the service on Xbox is a possibility, of course, and it’s always possible that such a move is what is driving the current rumors. Although it seems unlikely that Xbox will put the service as is, which would simply be a direct competitor, on its platform in 2021.
Ubisoft + is currently a single-tier premium service, offering all of Ubisoft’s latest titles on the day and date, along with virtually their entire old catalog. While the EA deal added a lot of content to Game Pass, it was just the bottom tier of titles from the previous catalog, rather than the latest releases.
That said, EA Play completely blew us away, so anything seems possible right now in the game subscription space. Ubisoft could craft a two-tier offering for Game Pass inclusion, at an additional cost for those who want the latest titles.
Of course, it’s all just speculation at present, but after the EA Play deal, this time it was worth getting ahead of the options.
