Setting up an iCloud account is essential to get started with any iOS device. If the service is down or inaccessible, that can cause quite a headache. Unfortunately, some users have had trouble doing it, on Christmas day, to begin with.
According to Apple Insider, some users reported problems accessing iCloud settings as early as 4:45 am on December 25. The issue has affected a number of devices, particularly anything that requires an Apple ID to sign in.
Apple’s support Twitter account answered to a user who is having difficulty setting up his mother’s new iPad and HomePod mini. The official response indicated that the service was “experiencing high capacity.” Apple suggested “try again in a couple of hours” at that time.
It seems like the problem still persists, a full day after surfacing. At the time of writing this article, Apple’s official system status page shows a problem with the iCloud account and login. It is the only service currently affected; a yellow dot in a green sea.
The Verge reports that Apple has yet to respond to inquiries about the status of iCloud. Apple has not released any official statement on its social media channels beyond its initial response. There is currently no ETA as to when the issue will be resolved. With several new users logging into iOS devices, the hope is that it will mitigate soon.
