The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards was packed with surprises that included a sweep of all Pop TV comedy categories. Schitt’s cove. The now-completed series won seven trophies, including Outstanding Comedy Series. It is the first time in the history of an Emmy that a show has swept all the awards in that category.

Succession It claimed four of seven dramatic categories, including Best Drama Series, Leading Actor, Directing, and Writing.

Another moment on a night of firsts saw HBO’s Zendaya Euphoria take home the trophy for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series, overcoming a competitive field that included The Morning ShowJennifer Aniston, The crownOlivia Colman, Killing EvaJodie Comer and OzarkLaura Linney. She is the youngest person in Emmys history to win in that category.

Billy Crudup by The Morning Show beat the Succession squad – Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen and Nicholas Braun – for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. Crudup represented the first Emmy win for Apple TV +.

Julia Garner surprised many with her second victory for Netflix Ozark. Many expected a victory for SuccessionSarah Snook for her role as Shiv, Logan Roy’s only feisty daughter.
