Reeder News App Adds iPadOS Trackpad Features, Microsoft Planning Support “For Fall”

As developers continue to implement trackpad support for their iPad apps, the popular RSS Reeder app is the latest to add the capability. Microsoft, on the other hand, apparently plans to take a slower approach to implementing the functionality.

Reeder’s latest update includes full support for the new trackpad capabilities introduced in iPadOS 13.4. This includes support for scrolling over items, accessing controls and options through context menus, and much more. The application is available in the App Store as a free download.

On the other hand, Microsoft does not appear to have any immediate plans to implement iPadOS cursor support in its Office suite. TechCrunch reports that Microsoft’s implementation “is expected to ship in Office for iPad this fall.” In his own report, The edge adds that “Microsoft plans to include cursor support by the fall.”

This seems to imply that Microsoft is working on the feature with the goal of launching it before this fall. That timeline leaves plenty of room for maneuver; maybe we’ll see the feature roll out tomorrow, or maybe not until September.

Microsoft recently began testing iPadOS multi-window compatibility for Word and PowerPoint, after being used as an example during Apple’s WWDC presentation last year. At the moment, you can join the public beta version of Microsoft Word through this link TestFlight and the beta version of Microsoft PowerPoint through this link.

Ideally, Microsoft will add cursor support to its Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook apps on iPad long before this fall, but only time will tell.
