A US-based production company is launching a reality TV show based on a worldwide search for a space-loving contestant who would win a trip to the International Space Station, as NASA opens space to artists and advertisers.
UK-based Space Hero LLC is in talks with Houston, Texas-based Axiom Space, which procures and arranges private trips to space, to reserve a seat for “a worthy contestant” in 2023 aboard a Private space capsule, the production company announced Thursday.
So far, no television network or air date has been agreed upon for the show, tentatively titled Space hero.
“Space Hero will provide an opportunity for anyone, regardless of origin, to become the world’s first elected space explorer to participate in a mission to the International Space Station,” the company said in a press release.

The unscripted casting show will follow the winning contestant through extensive astronaut training before embarking on a week-long stay aboard the space station, an orbiting laboratory that travels in low-Earth orbit at approximately 17,000 miles per hour. .
It is unclear which space vehicle the winning contestant will travel in. Previously announced Axiom-staged missions have involved SpaceX’s Crew Dragon, though the company said it could use other vehicles as well, such as Boeing’s Starliner space capsule. On Friday, a Space Hero spokesperson did not provide a budget for the program, but company co-founder Deborah Sass described the winning prize as “a $ 65 million ticket with a ten-day stay on the International Space Station.” .
The reality television is the latest deal to capitalize on the International Space Station, which NASA has opened in recent years to advertisers and private companies in a bid to boost business opportunities in low Earth orbit.
The station, which has continuously hosted international crews of astronauts for nearly 20 years, will host Mission Impossible He will star as Tom Cruise for years to come as the setting for an action adventure film. Cruise will travel aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, hosted by Axiom.
