A PS5 controller charging issue confuses gamers lucky enough to own the console, as certain scenarios cause the DualSense not to charge.
A PS5 Several users have encountered the controller charging issue with the luck of owning the new console, and it confuses them as there doesn’t seem to be an obvious reason why the DualSense is not charging. Sony’s current-generation console has been available to consumers since November 12, 2020, and many of the first impressions that came in have noted the impressive technology on display on the device, including the DualSense, which gets a free display at form of Astro Game Room, proving why its improved haptics could mean a world of difference to gamers down the road.
However, the PS5 launch period has not been without its problems, and some have been downright alarming. The main PS5 issues were the ones that saw the console “crash” or were forced to factory reset due to a strange sleep mode bug that seemed to be linked to Spider-Man: Miles Morales. That issue also appears to be related to the PS5’s sleep mode setting, which plays a crucial role in replicating the issue that has seen some users crash their new device. Minor concerns have also been raised, such as PS5 download speeds, although they are certainly less pressing than any hardware or software issues that render the console unusable.

Now, there seems to be another problem: a PS5 controller loading issue which, while not consistent across all units, has affected enough users to start sparking discussion on social media sites like Twitter on how to fix it. Fans aren’t sure exactly why the DualSense isn’t charging, but they’re sure there’s a PS5 controller charging issue that stems from putting the console into sleep mode and trying to use its front USB port to charge the DualSense. This issue has been reported by several different users and Screen Rant was able to replicate it. However, there seems to be a solution: Several PS5 owners have noted that connecting controllers to the console via the rear USB will avoid the problem, even in sleep mode. However, that may not be a consistent solution, as some owners have suggested that even the rear port doesn’t solve the problem. Sony has yet to officially comment on any issues at this time.
Hears @AskPlayStation my controller won’t charge when connected to my PS5 during sleep mode. It begins to charge and then stops after about a minute. Sleep mode charging is on … I even changed it from 3 hours to “always” to test it.

For now, there doesn’t seem to be any problem that can’t be solved by having the console turned on and charging the controller that way, but that’s certainly not convenient, and charging in sleep mode is the preferred method for many users as it allows them to go back to a fully charged controller that can ditch the cord and give you maximum comfort during your gaming session. A PS5 controller charging issue, especially one that doesn’t seem to explain why the DualSense isn’t charging without outside help, could be another annoyance for early users of the Sony console.
It’s been a difficult launch period for PlayStation 5, but not one that it can’t recover from. QA issues are one thing, but a lot of PS5 issues seem to stem from how the sleep mode setting currently works with other factors. If that can be fixed in a software update, it should be nothing more than a speed boost at launch, but if it can’t, the PS5 controller loading issue could turn into something that keeps fans away from the console. current generation of Sony. Why the DualSense isn’t charging continues to confuse gamers for now, but hopefully Sony will have an answer soon.
