KHARTOUM, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) – Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday for a two-day visit on regional issues related to Sudan.
Al-Burhan will hold talks with the UAE leaders, while his high-level ministerial delegation is scheduled to discuss with a US government team already in the UAE about removing Sudan from the list of States. sponsors of terrorism by the United States, supporting Sudan’s transition period and relieving Sudan of its debts to Washington, the council said in a statement.
Since the removal of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, rapprochement between Khartoum and Washington has accelerated despite outstanding problems.
The United States began imposing economic sanctions on Sudan in 1997 and has listed it as one of the countries that sponsors terrorism since 1993.
In 2017, Washington decided to lift its economic sanctions on Sudan, but kept it on its list of sponsors of terrorism. Final product
