President Al-Sisi receives a letter of support on GERD from his Congolese counterpart

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received a letter on Saturday from the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Felix Tshisekedi, outlining support for the Egyptian position on the Great Renaissance Dam. Ethiopia (GERD).

Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said Jean-Claude Kabongo, an adviser to the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, delivered the letter on Saturday, which affirmed his country’s aspiration to improve bilateral relations with Egypt. The letter also said that the Democratic Republic of the Congo wanted to benefit from the Egyptian experience in the field of infrastructure and major development projects.

President Al-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the support of the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding Egypt’s access to the water of the Nile River, and said Egypt appreciates all cooperation with other African countries, including access to the enormous potential and the rich resources available across the continent.

Al-Sisi also praised the bilateral cooperative relations with the Democratic Republic of the Congo in various fields, adding that Egypt is interested in supporting the Democratic Republic of the Congo in various technical and development fields. Increased cooperation would see a further increase in trade exchange rates between the two countries.

Kabongo also conveyed President Tshisekedi’s appreciation for the Egyptian support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in all international and regional forums, and the diverse assistance he has provided. This includes the the medical aid convoy that Egypt sent to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to address the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
