Princess Eugenie was photographed with her belly running errands in the days before announcing the news of her baby.
Eugenie, 30, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, 34, broke the news today, weeks before their second wedding anniversary.
In the days leading up to the announcement, Eugenie looked stunning when she stepped out on a sunny day in Notting Hill, west London.
Intended parents made their happy announcement on Instagram – they posted a photo of a pair of bear slippers that Royal fans can buy for just £ 8 from John Lewis.
So far, the image has racked up over 150,000 likes and over 6,700 well-wishes comments from people, congratulating the happy couple since it was posted two hours ago.
The caption to the image simply read, “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021 …” and the baby emoji.
Since then, congratulatory messages have flooded comments on the post, with some already speculating whether royalty will give birth to a girl or a boy.
While the fluffy slippers are clearly very gender neutral, this hasn’t stopped several users from suggesting they are a “clue” that the couple is having a child.
One user shared his thoughts on Twitter and commented, “I hope Eugenie and Jack do well. Maybe they will color a baby touch.”
Another on Instagram wrote: “Good news, Your Royal Highness! Nothing like a baby to bring some happiness to the world. I will say a boy.”
A third said, “Wonderful news. Congratulations. (Call boy!)”
Someone else replied, “Congratulations, is it a boy?”
An announcement about the pregnancy was also shared on the Royal Family’s social media accounts.
It read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are very happy to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.
“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”
The baby will be the ninth great-grandson of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and the first grandson of Prince Andrew and his former Sarah Ferguson.
The little one will also be eleventh in line to the throne. But while Eugenie is a princess, the baby will simply be the Master or Miss Brooksbank, unless the Queen steps in to give Jack a county or issues Patent Letters rules that modify the rules for a boy born in a female line of The Royal Family, however, connoisseurs think unlikely.
Buckingham Palace said: “The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.” And Eugenie posted a baby bootie snap and wrote, “Jack and I are so excited.”
Ladbrokes bookies have either Arthur or Victoria as initial favorites for the name, while Paddy Power and Betfair went for Arthur or Alice.
The birth of a royal baby is a momentous time in the family, and it comes with its own very particular set of rules.
Before any official announcement of the arrival of a royal baby, Her Majesty must first be informed.
This rule is taken so seriously that when Prince George was born, Prince William used an encrypted phone to relay the news to his grandmother.
This is a medieval tradition that dates back hundreds of years and was introduced because most of the people in Britain could not read or write.
Tony Appleton was honored to announce the birth of both Prince George and Princess Charlotte outside the Lindo Wing when Kate Middleton gave birth.
