The Adidas Superstar is one of the most famous sneakers of all time. Now it will become one of the most luxurious. That’s because a new collaboration between the sneaker giant and Prada is giving the classic kick a luxurious new makeover.
Next week, as part of the second phase of the brand association, Prada Superstar is scheduled to hit stores, according to a joint press release. The collaboration does not attempt to reinvent the iconic unisex shoe, which was introduced in 1969, but it does illustrate how a memorable staple can be subtly updated with premium materials.
Take a casual look at the Prada Superstar and you may not notice much of a difference between it and the standard model. This is because its most crucial elements – the famous simple silhouette, distinctive rubber toe cap, and the trademark stripes and shamrock logo – have been left alone, and for good reason. In fact, if it weren’t for the hot-stamped Prada logo on the side of the heel, you’d probably have no idea that the Italian fashion house played a role in the development of the new edition.
But all that changes once you pick up the shoe. This Superstar offers Prada’s signature combination of craftsmanship and rich materials. This is because the shoe is assembled in the Prada workshops in the Le Marche region with full grain leather, giving the shoe the premium feel you have come to expect from the fashion house.
The shoe, which goes on sale in the brands’ stores and online on September 8, will be available in three color combinations: monochrome black, white on black, and chrome silver on white. All three shoes follow in the footsteps of an all-white limited-edition Superstar and Bowling Bag that the brands launched together late last year. A third collaboration, with pieces inspired by the America’s Cup regatta, will debut early next year.
