It’s been a long time since the Mafia game made headlines. In fact, even the title identifier on Twitter has been silent since August 2018. However, on May 10, the account posted a single word, sparking a frenzy in its fans. Now, speculation abounds about a possible new entry in the video game franchise.
Mafia is a truly beloved game that has been around since 2002. It was then that the first title came out, leading to comparisons to GTA. The successful and acclaimed game was followed by an 8 year wait for Mafia II. The last installment of the franchise came in 2016 with Mafia III.
New video game or remastered mafia?
However, fans have been eagerly waiting for the series to continue, as we mentioned before, there was no news since 2018. All of that changed in 2020, and we’re not talking about the May 10 tweet that simply said “Family.”

That was followed by another provocation today, once again a one-word tweet. This time it said “Power”.

While many are hoping for a new game, it’s likely to do with the remastering of Mafia II and Mafia III.
Earlier this year, news leaked that the Korean Games Rating and Management Committee and the Taiwan Digital Games Rating Committee had rated the previous two entries in the franchise.
In 2018, the studio behind Mafia III, Hangar 13 released a significant portion of its staff. The statement issued by the owners said this decision was necessary for their “long-term development plans.”
Apparently, this was possible only if they aligned their resources properly. Sadly, without a full force in place for the past few years, it is highly unlikely that Hangar 13 could have developed an entirely new game. So get ready to settle for the remastered editions of the second and third series.
However, in all honesty, that’s not too bad, either. Both games were an absolute joy. In-game enhancements for current gaming platforms are sure to make these games even better now.
Keep watching this space for news about the release date.
