With celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. ongoing and upcoming release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars Next week, we thought it would be the perfect time to survey Nintendo Life readers for the final ranking of 3D Mario games. As in our recent Readers’ Ranking Survey of the Best Final Fantasy Games (on Nintendo Systems), we very much ask that you rate the 3D Mario games you’ve played from the list below.
We’ve included all the mainline 3D Marios, including the DS remake of Super mario 64—The first way to officially play Mario 64 on a handheld with new playable characters and minigames – plus 3D Earth and 3D world (coming to Switch next February in the expanded form of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury). These latter entries may not offer the same open-browsing style as the others, but their respective titles leave little doubt that they belong on this short list.
Registered Nintendo Life users can click on the stars below and rate the games out of 10. Like our Top 50 platform surveys, the resulting ranking (which we’ll post soon) is built from those fluid user ratings from NL and is therefore subject to change, even after posting. If you have already rated these games in our database, thank you! If you’re in the middle of a Mario adventure and don’t want to rate it yet, no problem – you can add your score to the game at any time in the future and it will continue to count and potentially influence the rating.
If you’re interested in our opinion, feel free to check out our ranked list of Mario’s main series (2D included). If not, it is time to continue classifying the inputs in 3D. All ready? Here we go!

Thanks for rating! We’ll find out the results next week, but remember: like our Top 50 platform, the list here is fluid, so even if voting is lost before the results are revealed, you can still influence the ranking after the publication.
