(Reuters) – Polish video game maker CD Projekt SA said on Tuesday it sold more than 13 million copies of its Cyberpunk 2077 game through December 20, taking into account refunds demanded by gamers who complained it was plagued. of errors.

“This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales on all hardware platforms (taking into account returns sent by retail customers in both physical and digital stores), that is, the figure of ‘direct sale’, minus all requests electronic refund sent directly to the company, ”said CD Projekt.

The company had not provided sales forecasts and did not disclose how many refund requests it had received.

The 13 million figure is below market expectations of 16.4 million, said analyst Piotr Bogusz of brokerage mBank.

The game, released on December 10, got off to a rocky start after a backlash over technical glitches prompted Sony Corp to remove it from its PlayStation Store and Xbox maker Microsoft Corp to offer refunds.

Cyberpunk 2077, a futuristic role-playing game with Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, was considered one of the biggest releases of this year. However, the game’s troubled launch caused CD Projekt’s stock to drop 40% from a record reached before the game’s launch.
