Battery life is perhaps the best update to the new Pixel 5, but there is a strange bug that some users have noticed. The battery indicator on some Pixel 5 units is stuck at a certain percentage despite prolonged use, but a fix is coming.
If you’ve already had a Pixel 5 delivered to your doorstep, you may be among the collection of users who have noticed that the battery indicator appears to be a bit unstable. Under normal circumstances, the Pixel 5 slowly depletes, but like our very own Kyle Bradshaw annotated on Twitter Last week it took more than three hours for your unit to go from 100% to 99%. Obviously, that is abnormal.
It seems that I was not alone, as a support thread on the Google forums has seen multiple users in the last few days reporting the same problem, albeit sometimes at different percentage points.
A Google product expert has confirmed that this is a known Pixel 5 bug and that a future Android update “coming out soon” will resolve the battery gauge issues. In the meantime, users can temporarily resolve the issue by restarting their phone and plugging it back into a charger which should correct the level.
The team is aware of this issue and a fix will be rolled out in a future Android update soon. Your battery is charging, but the indicator may be stuck. If you restart your phone and reconnect it to the charger, the battery level should quickly rise to the correct level.
