Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was warned that the grass is not always greener as the Gabonese striker continues to be linked to an Arsenal departure.
Gunner Aubameyang has no contract in the Emirates next summer with Londoners looking at the barrel of another campaign without Champions League football.
Barcelona is a long-term admirer of the former Borussia Dortmund striker and failed in his attempts to lure him to the Camp Nou in January.
The Catalan giants were expected to renew their search in the summer before the coronavirus crisis halted soccer worldwide.
Now Barça have joined Classic Madrid rival in the search for Aubameyang, 30, who has scored 61 goals in 97 games for Arsenal since joining in January 2018.
But former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov warned the raft of attacking talent at both Barca and Real that he could see Aubameyang struggling to replicate his leading man status at the Gunners.
Berbatov told Betfair: “Barcelona and Real Madrid are the favorites to sign him and, as a move in that situation, your head will turn.
“Aubameyang needs to calculate his options to see if he will benefit and be happy to move to these types of teams.”
“From their perspective, any of them is a good move because they are two of the best teams in the world, but then you have to look at their lineups, which include Messi, Suarez, Griezmann, Dembele, Fati, Benzema, Bale, Hazard.
“Would Aubameyang play a lot in any of those squads? He is not getting younger, he needs to be in a club where he will play and he is the captain at Arsenal. But the most important factor in all of this is winning trophies.”
“You have to ask if Aubameyang is happy at Arsenal and if he is not, I can understand why.”
“Soccer is about winning trophies and we all know that Arsenal is a team that plays attractive soccer, but in the end they have been left empty-handed many times. That can be frustrating for a player.”
“Also, the overall performance of the computer can bother you sometimes.
“Aubameyang is a striker, so the goals will be important to him, the way he plays, how he plays and how he feels, the only person who can tell him about it is him.”
“The way of life, the way football is carried out, his teammates and the life of his family in London, are things that could make him stay.”
“Being a footballer in London is great, and it’s one of the best things ever, especially when you play for a great team like Arsenal. The only thing missing is the trophies.”
