In an interview with Major Nelson, Phil Spencer said that Xbox is “working as hard as we can” to get more Xbox Series X and S consoles for gamers as the shortage continues. To recap the year, Spencer said, “we got the consoles we launched and we wish we had more, we’re selling out too fast.” He continued: “I have some people [saying], ‘Why didn’t you build more, why didn’t you start earlier, why didn’t you send them earlier?’ I mean all of those things, and it really comes down to physics and “engineering.” We are not holding them back, we are building them as fast as we can, we have all the assembly lines up and running, “Spencer added.
Spencer notes that he’s been on the phone recently with Lisa Su of AMD (which makes the CPU and GPU for Xbox next-gen consoles) asking “how can we get more? It’s clear the team is working hard to get more consoles into the hands of gamers. Supply simply can’t meet demand right now, so shortages are expected: Last year, Microsoft’s CFO said he realistically expected supply to meet demand by spring 2021.
