“I apologize to Gareth Southgate, my teammates in England, the staff, the fans, and also my club and my family,” he wrote.
“I am a young player with a lot to learn, but I am aware of the enormous responsibility I have in representing Manchester City and England at this level.
“This time, I made a bad decision and my behavior did not meet the standards expected of me.
“I violated the Covid-19 protocols in place to protect myself and my colleagues in England.
“As a consequence, now I will lose the opportunity to travel to Denmark with the squad, and that hurts.

Gareth Southgate confirmed the decision to leave the two exciting young men, saying;
“Unfortunately, this morning it came to my attention that two guys had broken the COVID guidelines in terms of our security bubble and we had to decide very quickly that they could not have any interaction with the team,” he told reporters.
“These are two guys that I don’t know particularly well at the moment, so I can’t speak in depth. I have to try to talk to them later in the appropriate way. They have responsibilities and they have apologized.”

Manchester United said they were “disappointed” by Greenwood’s conduct, while Foden’s conduct was described as “totally inappropriate” by his club, Manchester City.

“The club supports the FA regarding this incident, and club officials are now in contact regarding Phil’s early forced return to the UK.”
