Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has insisted he was on the verge of getting back into top form before the season was suspended amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The 27-year-old was ruled out from late September to mid-December with an ankle injury, and then made just two appearances from the bench before he was again sidelined.
Some have suggested that the Frenchman has exaggerated his problems trying to leave the club, but speaking on the UTD podcast, Pogba said he was very close to getting back into action before soccer stopped.
“I’m already training and playing the ball,” he said. “I was frustrated a long time ago. Now I’m almost there, so I’m just thinking about going back and fully training with the team and all that.”
“You think badly but I’ve never had anything like that in my career, so I always take it in a good way. It makes me hungrier to go back and do it right. And, yes, it also shows me how I love football.
“You have to be very patient because, well, my injury, I don’t know if people really know what happened,” he explained. “So I had a foot injury, which occurred in the game against Southampton. It was earlier this season. So I wore this for a long time, training and trying to play with it. After stopping, I found out I had a fracture.
“I had a cast, a cast, so it went very well but too well. The bone got bigger and when I came back I played those two games against Watford and Newcastle, I could feel something again.” So I had to have surgery and now I’m here. I don’t feel anything and hopefully I’ll be back very soon. ”
Pogba has been linked to a big money move to players like Juventus and Real Madrid, and it remains to be seen if he appears in a Red Devils shirt again.
