New York (TADIAS) – This week, the Ethiopian Diaspora High-Level Advisory Council on COVID-19 and People to People (P2P) is hosting a timely online conference called “Mitigating the Challenges of Dual Healthcare: Pandemic and Conflict armed”.

According to the announcement, the goal of the conference, which is scheduled for December 12, is to “gather technical, financial and logistical resources from Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia at home and in the diaspora, in support of health facilities. , academic and professional institutions that are at the forefront during this national emergency ”.

Strategic co-hosts of the event include the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE), the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Ethiopian Institute of Public Health (EPHI) and the MoSHE advisory board, Alliance for Brain-Gain and Innovative Development ( ABIDE), University of Gondar.

The program will open with introductory remarks from Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the US, Fitsum Arega, Health Teacher, Dr. Lia Tadesse, Minister of Science and Higher Education Professor Afework Kassu, and the Director General of the Institute of Ethiopian Public Health, Dr. Ebba Abate.

The announcement notes that Gondar’s Dr. Asrat Atsedewyn, Mekelle’s Dr. Fetien Abay and Bahirdar’s Dr. Ferew Tegegne will present the “perspectives of front-line healthcare institutions.”

Additional sessions include ‘updates on COVID-19’ (Dr. Gebeyehu Teferi); the impact of ‘psychosocial trauma’ (Professor Yonas Geda); “Best Practices on the Issue of Expired Medicines and Devices in Times of Crisis” (Prof. Bisrat Hailemeskel); “Current needs for surgical resources for crisis response” (Dr. Mensur Osman); “Experience of the MoSHE Advisory Council” (Dr. Damtew Teferra); and “Experience of the COVID19 Advisory Council” (Dr. Kebede Begna).

The event, which will be moderated by P2P board members Dr. Enawgaw Mehari, Dr. Anteneh Habte, Dr. Hanna Demeke and Dr. Kassa Darge, will conclude with closing remarks on the “role of the professionals in the diaspora in resource mobilization in times of crisis “by Prof Wondwossen Gebreyes.
