Two of the Google products that will almost certainly be announced next week have leaked their packaging. There’s a Nest Audio smart speaker nearby, seen on shelves at Walmart and online at Lowe’s. Meanwhile, someone else got their hands on a new TV dongle called Chromecast with Google TV.
The smart speaker was photographed at Walmart and posted on Twitter, where he was seen by 9to5Google. The images do not give many new clues about the device beyond what was already leaked and announced by Google, but it confirms the name and that it will come equipped with the Google Assistant (obviously). Lowe’s listing, which was discovered by WinFuture’s Roland quandt, says the smart speaker will support the “smart sound” room setting feature that was first seen in Google Home Max. Quandt reports that the speaker $ 99.99 retail.
In the meantime, Android Police reports that someone on Reddit got their hands on the Chromecast with the Google TV dongle prior to its announcement and posted a video of its retail packaging. Like the Nest Audio, the multiple leaks in recent months have already given us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the device. It’ll run Android TV, which is apparently being rebranded Google TV, and you’ll be able to control it with an included remote. You can also “stream” content from compatible applications. It could offer the best of both worlds between an Android TV box and a slim Chromecast dongle.
Google has already almost confirmed that both devices will appear at its September 30 hardware event, where it says it plans to detail a “new Chromecast” and its “latest smart speaker” alongside its new Pixel phones. Since the retail packaging for both devices is already leaking, it is likely that both will be released shortly after the event.
