Pac-Man Geo aims to take on Pokémon Go

Japanese software giant Bandai Namco has thrown the gauntlet on Niantic and its augmented reality game Pokemon Go. The main hero of this duel is a great legend in the world of video games: Pac-Man. The pellet eater turns 40 this year and Bandai Namco will honor this anniversary by bringing the Pac-Man experience to the streets. The game in question is called Pac-Man Geo and it will have you running for those pellets around real blocks and neighborhoods. The game is expected to launch sometime this fall, and players from iOS and Android can pre-register right now. There is no actual press information on the game at this time other than the official description found on the Google Play Store.

Judging from the screenshots, people will be able to create their own mazes or compete in ready-made courses. The actual mechanics of the game are still unknown, although we can vividly imagine people running down the hallways with their phones to their faces. It’s still unclear if there will be ghosts chasing you (that would be fun) or if you will just focus on collecting buckshot (which means less running, more walking).

It’s worth mentioning that the world has not been spared from the COVID-19 disease, and the potential lockdowns this fall may greatly interfere with Bandai Namco’s plans to give Pokémon Go a run for its money.
