Marvel’s Avengers is one of the highest-profile releases for the remainder of 2020. Released on September 4, the Destiny-like co-op action title used its pre-release period to host a series of closed and open betas. Now, as we get to the official launch of the game, new figures have been announced, revealing that more than 6 million players participated in the game’s open and closed betas.
Reported by Square Enix, the publisher revealed that “Marvel’s Avengers Beta was BIG. How big? Check out our Beta Infographic at the end of this blog to find out! Millions of you played, for a total of tens of millions of hours. All of that data, combined with their feedback and feature requests, has made a big impact. “
The infographic in question reveals that more than 6 million players participated in the beta. For the sake of comparison, as reported by DomsPlaying, the original Destiny reached 4.6 million players during its beta; Division 1 saw 6 million players, while Overwatch saw more than 10 million players test their beta.
Although it is not an exact science, Destiny 1 saw more than “25 million registered players” throughout its life; Division 1 sold more than 10 million copies, and Overwatch is doing quite well with more than 50 million players.
While this shows that the number of beta players does not necessarily correlate with the number of eventual sales, it does show that interest in the next game is quite high; Whether the beta itself impressed players is a completely different matter. Either way, it will be interesting to see if these beta players actually translate to sales or not.
