OnePlus Nord N10 5G is another Moto G moment

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G is a turning point for the company, and for you, if you buy the device. It is at this point that OnePlus moves beyond a single phone line, or two phone lines (regular and budget), or even three (with the Pro line). Now we have OnePlus, a budget line with Nord, and another pair of phones (N10 5G and N100). What are we going to do with this? We’ve had the device for long enough and now I can begin to make serious considerations not only about its features and capabilities, but also what it represents for the company and for you, the consumer of OnePlus products.

I remember the time when Motorola released the original Moto G in late 2013. It was a turning point for the company, and a point where I assumed (wrongly) that Motorola (and later parent company Google) had the right idea when These are “cheap” smartphones.

Motorola went through a LOT of changes over the half decade since the launch of the first Moto G. Too many different lines of Motorola phones were made, the company was broken up into parts and bought (mostly) by Lenovo, driving their efforts to primarily international markets.

OnePlus hasn’t been around as long as Motorola. The Motorola brand was responsible for making some of the first mobile phones. OnePlus was originally part of the OPPO company. OPPO is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics. Subsidiaries of BBK Electronics Corporation currently include: OPPO, Vivo, Realme, iQOO and OnePlus.

OnePlus launched OnePlus One in 2014. In July 2015, OnePlus Two was launched. OnePlus X (budget phone) was revealed in October 2015. Starting in 2016, OnePlus began to reveal two devices a year: OnePlus 3 in the first half of the year, OnePlus 3T in the second half of 2016.

This continued with OnePlus 5 and 5T in 2017, then OnePlus 6 and 6T in 2018. In 2019, OnePlus launched OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro in the first half of the year, then OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro in the second half.

In 2020, OnePlus took one more step in its efforts. The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro were revealed in April 2020, the OnePlus Nord (budget phone) was launched in August 2020, and both OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100 were revealed in late October.

The OnePlus Nord was a great phone – a budget line for the company, a winner. The OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100, even in name alone, suggest that OnePlus is ready to spread its brand well beyond its dedicated hero line.

As with the biggest brands running a similar strategy, we must also pay extra attention to judging each device on its own merits. Especially when OnePlus launches devices that look extremely similar to each other but use surprisingly different levels of quality hardware, we must make sure that we are not suggesting that one OnePlus smartphone is as good as another.

Before we jump into our OnePlus Nord N10 5G review, keep in mind that this was the point at which OnePlus started making budget phones that looked strikingly similar to its much more expensive (and more powerful and more capable) smartphones with very similar names. .

Not all OnePlus phones are the same. Cross your fingers OnePlus can deliver on its promises with hardware quality and software updates as they continue to expand beyond the single line. Stay tuned as we explore the possibilities.
