OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei Confirms He Is Leaving The Company

[ad_1]

Carl Pei has been in many ways the public face of OnePlus, along with co-founder Pete Lau. But today, after seven years with the company, Pei announced that he would be leaving in a blog post on the OnePlus community forums. It is unclear if there is any specific reason for his departure.

Rumors have suggested that Pei is moving into a new company. It’s not unreasonable to assume that he might eventually, but Pei’s own post doesn’t suggest that’s the main reason he left:

I’ve never regretted trusting my instincts, and this time it’s no different. In recent years, OnePlus has been my singular focus, and everything else has taken a back seat. I hope to take some time off to relax and catch up with my family and friends. And then my heart follows what follows. “

Other unsubstantiated rumors have suggested that there was a fight with Lau, but Pei thanked him in his post:

I’m eternally grateful to Pete for taking a chance on this guy without a college degree, with nothing to his name but a dream. Trust, mentorship, and camaraderie will never be forgotten. Thanks for the opportunity of a lifetime.

Pei helped start OnePlus when he was 24 and has been one of the main players responsible for building the company’s brand, most recently spearheading the launch of the Nord line.

Corporate gossip aside, I hope to see where Pei ends up, but I hope he takes that time to relax. We could all use it, after this year.
